Tennis Player Profile #3 – Novak Djokovic

30 Oct

Novak Djokovic, a Serbian tennis player, is ranked number 3 in the latest ATP rankings.

As a young player, he has won one Grand Slam singles title in the 2008 Australian Open, while becoming the youngest player in these days to enter the semifinals in all four Grand Slam tournaments. He was the runner-up in the 2007 and 2010 U
S Open, and a bronze medalist for Serbia at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. With Master Series, Djokovic has won five Master Series and a Tennis Masters Cup in 2008.

Djokovic is an all-round player, armed with a terrific two-handed backhand and a “control” serves. Different from many other players, Djokovic concentrates on the course and the spin of his serves, rather than the speed or strength of the serve. Also, he has great defense skills coming from his physical abilities next to Nadal and his flexibility. He is known as a strong, complete baseliner, which makes opponents almost impossible to out rally or breakdown his game. Although he may seem to be concentrating only with consistency, he has great down-the-line shots, along with returns coming from full stretches.

However, a problem he has is double-faults, which he makes a bit more than other top players, and physical illnesses such as allergies, or  breathing issues that he faces quite often when the game becomes a long, endurance match. Out of many problems, I’m pretty sure that his stress/anxiety complex is what troubles Djokovic the most; it effects his mental status.

Although he has this many weaknesses, I am sure if Djokovic continues to play as he did in the US Open, he will win more Grand Slam Singles titles in his career!
